Agency to choose the foods one eats positively impacts a person’s food secure experience. Therefore, accessibility and availability to the foods associated with one’s culture is integral to that experience as well. In this course, you will explore some of the diverse needs of Manitobans as they’re related to food and more. In each lesson you will find first-hand stories shared by Manitobans who have cultural food preferences. You are encouraged to immerse yourself in their stories and reflect on your own thoughts and experiences. You can then share your thoughts in the form of a reflective assessment following each lesson. David Northcott, the former long-time Executive Director of Harvest Manitoba, was interviewed for the introduction to this course. He discussed hunger, poverty, his time at Harvest and how he navigated the diverse needs of Manitobans in search of their cultural foods.
